The Serra de Tramuntana has an extensive network of paths. Some trails follow the old roads connecting villages. They date back to the Arab period (1000 years ago) and are partly paved with stone. Others follow charcoal burners’ paths and old mule tracks, to isolated farms or watchtowers. The GR221 or “Pedra en Sec – Route of the Dry Stone Walls” runs along more than 160 km of old cobbled roads that once connected villages and properties on the mountain.

The “GR221 – ALPIN” program is aimed at the “mountaineers” among hikers. Not only because of the length and elevation of the routes, but also because of the type of trails. Some sections require the use of hands and even ropes, such as in the Torrent de Pareis. Many of the trails are “just” paths that take us over stones or rocks for long periods. The descent from the “Puig de Massanella”, for example, has no signage and is “only” marked with cairns. This program requires a good level of fitness and some hiking experience.
