The complete Mallorca crossing leads from the southwesternmost point of Mallorca, Port d’Andratx, to the northeasternmost point in Cala Ratjada over more than 200 km across Mallorca. You can complete the longest stage of around 45 km by bike.

The GR221 takes us through the Serra de Tramuntana with a length of 90 km. It has been a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 2011. It is known for its centuries-old stone walls, olive trees and holm oaks that characterize the landscape. The Serra de Tramuntana has an extensive network of paths. Some hiking trails run along the old connecting paths between the towns. They date back to the Arab period (1000 years ago) and are partly paved with stone. Others follow charcoal wagon trails and old mule trails to remote farms or watchtowers. The GR221 or “Pedra en Sec – Dry Stone Wall Route” intersects with the GR222 long-distance hiking trail at the Lluc Sanctuary.

The long-distance hiking trail GR222 connects Artà (in the northeast of the island) with the Llevant Natural Park, the holiday resort of Colònia de Sant Pere and the villages of Santa Margalida, Llubí, Inca, Selva and Caimari with the Lluc Monastery. The route through the plain uses the old summer cattle paths to the Serra de Tramuntana, which you explore on one stage by bike. You can choose between a trekking bike, racing bike or even an e-bike.

Moderately difficult variant: You take the public bus to Deiá. The hike begins here, which takes you first to the Bay of Deiá. You then reach the small hamlet of Llucalcari and hike up to the saddle above Soller. The descent takes you to the secret capital of the Tramuntana, Soller.

Challenging variant: You start directly in Valldemossa and hike through a holm oak forest to the high plateau, which slopes steeply towards the sea to the north. Sóller – Tossals Verds

The Biniaraix Gorge is one of the most beautiful landscapes in the Serra de Tramuntana and has been declared a “public cultural asset”. This paved hiking trail is a fascinating combination of stone steps, rocks, water and wild vegetation. From Lake Cúber to the mountain hut we continue via the “Pas de Roca Llisa”, which is considered a challenging variant but does not require any climbing experience. It’s just the scree nature of the path that poses a challenge. If you prefer to take the easy route, continue walking towards Lluc along the water canal. After about 1 hour from Cubersee you will see a sign towards Refugio Tossals Verds.

Distance: 16 km / Time: Approx. 7,5 h

Tossals Verds – Lluc

Today the queen stage awaits us on the GR221. The climb begins gently through a forest and leads us to the steep walls of the Massanella. Once we reach the saddle, we enjoy an endless view while taking a break from the summit before the descent to Lluc awaits us. If you are still looking for a challenge, go south about 5 minutes before the saddle and follow the narrow path to the wall of the Massanella. The climb to the summit begins here, which is only marked by cairns. However, this route should be avoided when it is foggy. In total, you should plan around 2.5 hours for the detour to the summit.
